When I was younger in Elementary, I couldn’t wait till Earth Day came around. That was the day when we would plant a tree, work in the schools garden, or clean up a near by park.
Since Elementary school, Earth Day has been invisible to me until lately.
It was really nice to see people out riding bikes instead driving there cars. I was one of them people, but what happens after that?
Back to the hair spray, driving and littering?
I don’t think so.
We unnecessarily destroy our earth by complete accident (some times), we so don’t have to. Here are easier ways to go green and stay green for the rest of your live. :D
1. Toss It- It is so annoying to be walking down the street and see a trash bin on every corner but trash is still all over the street. It’ll literally only take a second to pick it up and walk it to a trash bin. And on another note, MEDICATION! We have been told to flush old pills so younger kids wont get to the, but it is much better to toss them. The medication goes to water streams and take horrible effects on our sea critters, frogs and other wild life.
2. BYOB- Bring Your Own Bag! All most every store sales reusable bags, and most places like Forever 21, and Bebe have really cute designs, and there cheep. Instead of getting a plastic bag every time you go shopping, BYOB, most places (like Target) take off about 10 cent on your purchase for every reusable bag you bring. So not only is this saving the world, its also saving you money, talk about killing two birds with one stone (not literally).
3. Unplug IT- A lot of people think that they are saving energy by turning things off, which is some what true for certain things, but with majority of the electronics we use having stand by as an option, its some what not at the same time. Instead of pushing the power button on your way out, unplug it. Unplug that tv, the fan, that cell charger, and anything else that doesn’t have to be running when its not in use. It uses up so much unnecessary energy, and it makes the PG&E bill look sooooo much prettier.
4. Clean Green- I was watching this show abut frogs on the discovery Channel and apparently the things we use to clean house with are taking a horrible toll on them. Since we usually wash these products down the drain they get to the water supply for our animals, and these are the cause of the frogs with male and female parts, fishes with four eyes and so on and so forth. So instead of buying the regular cleaning things, invest in products that has a green leaf on them. This means they are friendly to the people in the huse and the wild life out side.
5.Good Eats- Try organic food. it’s a wee bit pricey but its good for your body and the earth. There are a lot of unnatural things that are used to produce a lot of things we eat today, besides the odd effect it has on the human bodies ( early puberty, obesity, heart disease), it takes a bigger effect on the world. Theres a lot of different things that are used to make our foods grow faster that also double to kill insectst that are apart of the circle of life. With out these things, we are thrown out of whack!
6.DON’T SPRAY IT!- Hair spray, pan spray, can paint, the list goes on. A lot of these sprays eat at our o-zone layer and causes global warming! Gels and greases are better and are more effective for hair, and olive oil and butter is more healthier for cooking.
7. Stop Riding Dirty- This is going to be hard because it was a bit difficult for me to do for a day. Put the car keys down sometimes! Public transportation is great on saving energy, and riding a bike is even better! If your close enough to the store, work or school, go ahead and walk, or carpool. And if you’r able to bye a car, why not invest in a Hybrid?
8.DON’T BE STINGY!- Sharing really is caring, and during this day and age, we can be a bit more generous with things like water. The average person uses 60 gallons for a shower, so instead of taking that long shower, cut it down by half the time, run the dish washer instead of washing the dishes and turn the water off when your brushing your teeth.
9.RECYCLE- Although everyone knows about recycling and, not even half of America’s actually do it. Its not that hard, keep to cans in the house, one for recyclables and one for trash. Keep an eye out for the recycle signs on containers before you toss them. A lot of cities have places that will take bags of cans, cartons and glass and will give you for them.
10. SPREAD THE WORD! Tell your friends, and family about how easy and effective it is to change the little things you do on regular basis into Green Things. Let them know about the discount you get for BYOB, and how much healthier you feel after going organic or walking to work. The more people aboard the green train, the better the ride!
THINK PINK! GO GREEN! SAVE THE WORLD!
